Representation Of Teenagers In The Media - Section 1

There are a lot of characters on TV that are teenagers. They are usually portrayed negatively but some are shown positively too.

1) “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” is ABC Family’s most watched original series of all-time and is ranked as 2010′s No. 1 scripted cable series among females aged 12 to 34. The focus of the show is sex. The teenagers in the programme are portrayed negatively and are a very bad role model. This suggests that teenagers get involved in sex-activities at a very young age.

2) "Jamie's American Road Trip (13+)"
Characters in this programme has clear goals - to get kids to eat healthier food and to break down stereotypes about American cuisine and culture. They don't shy away from the fight against the bureaucracy of the American school food system, which teaches kids to stand up for what they believe in, even if it's hard. They are also funny, smart, energetic, and not afraid to show emotion. This shows that some teen tv stars can be good role models. This signifies that they can be funny and energetic too.
